Blog on Time in Alberta

Hello everyone,

Greetings from Canmore, Alberta! This is my first blog post, and I wanted to share a bit about my time here and the inspiration it has provided for my upcoming show in the fall.

Canmore has been nothing short of a creative haven. I’ve been busy preparing for my exhibition, and the natural beauty here has been my perfect muse. The mountains, lakes, and the ever-changing light have all contributed to my latest watercolours, “Golden Hour” and “Misty Lakes.” Each painting is a small window into the serene and captivating moments I’ve experienced in this setting.

Aside from painting, I attended a barn performance of “Twelfth Night,” in Nanton Alberta, where my grandfather was born. I’ve also been staying active with aquasize sessions and even lent a hand to Nick as he is installing bunk beds for my cousins’ visit next week.

I look forward to sharing more of my journey and artwork with you all soon.

Time in Alberta

I’m on holiday staying with my mum in Canmore, Alberta. I’m so inspired by the natural beauty here. The mountains, lakes, and especially the light! These two watercolours, “Golden Hour” and “Misty Lakes,” show the serenity I’ve experienced.

“Golden Hour” reflects the magical time of day when the late sun casts its glow over the landscape, creating long shadows and a sense of tranquility. The rich earth tones and subtle gradients aim to evoke the peaceful yet fleeting time.

“Misty Lake,” on the other hand, is an exploration of the mysterious and ethereal quality of the early morning. The mist rises from the cold of the river into the warmer valley air, blurring the lines between water and sky, and conveying a sense of calm and contemplation.

Warm regards,

Emily
