The Smoky Summer in Canmore - “The Black Tree”

The Smoky Summer in Canmore

This summer and last, Canmore has been enveloped in a blanket of smoke from the nearby wildfires. The skies have taken on an eerie, hazy appearance, reminding us of the power and unpredictability of nature. Amidst this environment, I created “Black Tree” , reflecting the stark and profound impact of these fires.”Black Tree” captures a moment of striking contrast and beauty within the natural world. The painting features a prominent, dark tree trunk that twists and turns, cutting through vibrant shades of green and blue. The foliage is depicted in warm tones of gold and green, adding depth and texture to the scene. The background showcases layers of tranquil blues and greens, evoking a sense of calm despite the underlying turmoil symbolized by the tree’s dark silhouette.

I had the privilege of creating this piece during a mentorship with the talented Wanda Ellerbeck. During this mentorship I painted acrylic landscapes, did image photo transfers, and sketches. Her guidance was invaluable in helping me bring this vision to life.Prints of “The Black Tree” are available for $65, with framed prints priced at $165.
